On Friday the 15th of April, S&D MEP Marlene Mizzi will be hosting an event entitled:’’ Women’s Rights in 2016: Are we there yet?’’.

The event will feature around the screening of the film , the 2015 LUX Prize winner, and Oscar nominee Mustang , preceded by a debate on the subject. A number of speakers, experts on the subject will participate in the debate , including the Hon. Dr Helena Dalli Minister for Social Dialogue and other speakers Mustang, directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven tells the real story of five young Turkish sisters on the challenges they face growing up in a conservative society. This file is particularly relevant in the light of the current EU negotiations with Turkey, the discussion will focus on what is the European Union doing for women’s rights in 2016 and beyond. The film is in Turkish, with English subtitles.

Raising awareness and showing what Europe is doing for the status and situation of women in the euro med countries is the event’s main objective. MEP Mizzi said: “At a time when women’s rights are still being debated, and the questions as to why women still face discrimination and violence in today’s world are still being raised, this film is very pertinent and real. Unfortunately, gender inequality is not only a problem in developing countries but a reality in Europe too. Mustang is a poignant film that recounts reality for women in 2016 from a different perspective than what is normally dealt with on International Women’s day”. Mrs Mizzi added: “It is a highly acclaimed film in all the countries it has been shown, and was a nominee for the Academy awards in the 2016 foreign film category. I am proud to have managed to bring it over to show it to a discerning and appreciative Maltese public.”

This event will be held at the Embassy Cinemas , Valletta. Entrance is free but tickets are on a first come first served basis and must be collected from Embassy Cinemas before the 15th April. Bookings on 21222225 orhttp://embassycomplex.com.mt/. This event is being supported by S & D – The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats of the European Parliament and the Euro Media Forum

L-MEP Marlene Mizzi ttella’ serata dwar “Id-Drittijiet tan-Nisa fl-2016: Wasalna X’Imkien?” – Il-Gimgha 15 t’April. Jintwera l-film ‘Mustang’.

Qabel ma jintwera il-film se jkun hemm dibattitu dwar is-suġġett min-numru ta’ kelliema u esperti, fosthom l-Onorevoli Dr Helena Dalli, Ministru tad-Djalogu Socjali u l-MEP Marlene Mizzi.

Il-film dirett minn Deniz Gamze Ergüven jirrakkonta l-istorja ta’ ħames aħwa nisa Torok u l-problemi li jiltaqgħu magħhom biex jiffaċċjaw is-socjeta konservattiva li trabbew fiha. Dan il-film huwa relevanti fl-isfond tan-negozjati kurrenti ta’ l-UE dwar l-isħubija tat-Turkija u fuq id-diskussjoni li għaddejja fl-Unjoni li qed tiffoka fuq id-drittijiet tan-nisa. Il-film huwa sotto-titolat bl-Ingliż minkejja li l-atturi jitkellmu bit-Tork.

Il-qawmien ta’ kuxjenza dwar id-drittijiet tan-nisa u x’qed tagħmel l-Unjoni biex tgħolli lis-status tagħhom hija t-tema ewlenija ta’ din l-attivita’. L-MEP Mizzi qalet: “Fiż-żmien meta d-drittijiet tan-nisa għadhom qed jiġu diskussi, il-mistoqsijiet għalfejn in-nisa xorta għadhom jiffaċċaw diskriminazzjoni u vjolenza fid-Dinja tal-lum għadha ma ġietx mwieġba; u għalhekk dan il-film huwa mportanti u juri r-realta’ ta’ kif għadhom jiġu trattati n-nisa f’ċerta pajjiżi. Hija sfortuna, li d-deskriminazzjoni kontra l-ġeneru feminili mhijiex problema biss ta’ pajjiżi li qed jiżviluppaw, imma anke ta’ l-Ewropa. Mustang huwa film li juri r-realta’ tan-nisa fis-sena 2016 minn perspettiva differenti li mhux soltu narawha waqt il-Jum Internazzjonali tal-Mara.

Is-sinjura Mizzi kompliet li dan: “Il-film ġie mfaħħar fil-pajjiżi kollha li ntwera u ġie nominat għal diversi premijiet. Għalhekk jiena huwa unur għalija li rnexxieli nġibu hawn Malta biex ikun apprezzat mill-pubbliku Malti.”

L-attivita’ se titella’ fl-Embassy Cinemas, il-Belt u d-dħul huwa b’xejn. In-numru ta’ biljetti huwa limitat u għandhom jinġabru mill-Embassy qabel il-15 ta’ April. Ibbukkjaw fuq in-numru 21222225.

Din l-attivita’ qiegħda tiġi ssapportajat minn S & D – L-Allejanza Progressiva tas-Socjalisti u Demokratiċi tal-Parlament Ewropew.
